Pieces That Lay Broken 2023
Working with some of the best musicians on the planet we produce songs written by E G Holmes and collaborators - covering a wide range of genres
Fun fact: Recived some welcome songwriting advice from Donald Fagan (Steely Dan) around 1980. He reviewed some of my songs as a favor to one of his friends and wrote out his thoughts on each song in a letter. In summary Donald told me in essence to "Take Chances" with music. The way you structure, orchestrate, lyrics, etc. and make it interesting. It is fun to put two or more things together that wouldn't necessarily or logically make sense.
I like to songwrite in multiple genres changing things up in tempo and mood. Writing ballads, rock, blues, country rock, folk, jazz, classical rock, etc. wherever the mood and muse takes me.
Appreciative of all of the extremely talented people from around the world who have collaborated with me over the years.

Wonderful You 2013 Reviews:
Artist: E.G.Holmes Album: Wonderful You Genre: Adult Contemporary Rating: 10 out of 10 stars Website: Official Website CD Baby: Download Album Reviewed by: Mindy McCall Edited by: Michael Morrison From New York comes an amazing songwriter/musician songwriter/musician known as E.G. Holmes. After many years in the songwriting trenches, and after a chance run in with Donald Fagan of Steely Dan - Holmes teamed up with vocalist David Enden for his latest release to date known as Wonderful You in 2012. I always listen to the opening track extremely carefully. It s the opening track the artist has personally selected to hit your ears first and foremost. The opening track The Rumors sets the stage rather well for a modern day Jazz/Pop CD like this. It was a passionate intro piece that stuck in my head with a brilliantly delivered with a richly woven Contemporary Jazz texture with melodies that have serious melodic staying power. Music will remind you of many classic Jazz singer of the past like Nat King Cole and even the master Frank Sinatra. But there an undeniable Pop influence there as well like from James Taylor, Josh Grobin, and John Hiatt. To be honest I can t say enough about Holmes writing style and vocal appeal of Enden. A far as Enden goes: Rather than showboat, he sings a song the way it is supposed to be sung from the heart. E.G Holmes provides the perfect musical landscape for this vocal instrument. Wonderful You features a full band compliment and captures a very pure and genuine big city night sound that is classic Pop Jazz and will touch the listener both emotionally and spiritually. E.G Holmes has a sound that favors many Broadway giants of the past yet with a modern day conservative pop feel. It s simple yet brilliant. I ve never heard an artist so skillfully combine so many genres into one unique sound. Weather this is by design or simply by accident it s amazing. The songs that stuck with me the most were Mysterious and the title track. Songs available on CD Baby: The Rumors / Mysterious / Wonderful You / Tonight Everything Changes / Hot Blooded 4u / Busted / I Love the Night / Last Regret / Jambalaya / Pills & Chardonnay / Conclussion If there was one word I would use to describe the tandem Holmes/Enden dream team it would be passion. This CD will simply make your day a more entertaining place, but there is an undeniable soulful passion beneath the performances that can t be taught in any textbook. Together Holmes/Enden are the genuine article vocalist/composer/performer, but getting back to Holmes. It s obvious to me his primary goal as artist is to make the world a better place one song at a time. He really deserves a lot of credit for bringing all this together. He truly is a musical mastermind and a brilliant producer. --EVOR Entertainment
E.G Holmes is a songwriter who hails from the New York area. For his latest release Wonderful You he solicited the vocal skills of David Vanded Enden for an impressive collaboration of sorts. The combination of Holmes writing and Piano virtuoso and Enden s vocals presence sure look good on paper. Would it produce a strong result - we shall see. Wonderful You (2013) has much to commend. Admittedly, there is a whole lot of variety to these arrangements and performances. First: Holmes s impressive band delivers rock solid playing like a well oiled machine. This is testament to hundreds of hours of rehearsal time no doubt. Second: Enden voice is the perfect fit for Holmes writing style. Holmes/Enden have the attributes required of an effective Singer/Songwriter duo. Third: Holmes s sound and amazing songwriting touch are as good as it gets. All songs are a skillful combination of modern pop rock yet with a slight New York aftertaste that will remind you of Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Marc Cohen, Paul Davis and Harry Connick Jr. Holmes has the creativity and songwriting prowess to be extremely dangerous behind the Piano. There s also a unique quality to this catalogue that breaks the mold when compared to the mundane pop-rock that s been filling the airwaves lately. What am I trying to say well let m start by saying there is nothing fake and superficial about E.G. Holmes. Not every square inch is filled with musical ambience delivered under duress but musical space this allows the music to breathe on its own and vocal passion that cannot be faked. Equally as impressive is how marketable this 10 song catalogue truly is. It covers so much ground and despite this it manages to not spread itself to thin across to many lines nice touch. I ve always said if you can play it a party, then it s marketable. The music is extremely marketable with a fresh Jazz-Pop-Rock sound that is passionate and entertaining. All 10 tracks will genuinely lift your spirits unlike most music you hear on the radio these days. Let me go on record by saying this latest release from E.G. Holmes has no weaknesses that I can hear. Some would say this approach is a bit unorthodox. I say E.G. Holmes proves he is a real songwriting force. His choice to pick Enden was perfect. His latest release Wonderful You is an endearing album limited by nothing. I would imagine in time we will hear more from this ghostwriter from New York as the years unfold. Time will tell but I can honestly say this is one artist that is set up for marketable success down the road with respect to his writing style and unique approach. All of this gives modern day Pop well deserved wake up call. by Heather Savage edited by Devin McAlister --Vents Magazine
Review: on 2013-02-27 Michael_Morrison Said: Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound and image. There's something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever IT is - they all seem to have IT. Today I listened to the latest CD from New York based E.G. Holmes who just released his latest CD entitled: Wonderful You in 2013. Venturing to his website and reading his bio I get the impression this is one artist that is extremely determined and passionate about the songwriting craft. Not only did Holmes write all the songs on this CD, he went out an got a full band and an amazing singer named David Vanden Enden. From start to finish Wonderful You delivers and is a very entertaining musical experience. It has a very warm and inviting Pop-Rock quality to it, and even dabbles in Orchestral Jazz. It also reminds me of Brian Setzer Orchestra, Josh Groban, and Harry Connick Jr and Michael Buble. Any fans of any of these musical styles of these artists will enjoy this latest 10 track release from Holmes. It's clearly marketed for those who like a male vocal front . I get the impression Holmes is letting it all hang out via this compelling 10 track line up. In other words Holmes/Enden hit the mark remarkably well by just by being who they are musically. Favorite tracks include (The Rumors) and (Hot Blooded 4 U). All songs strike the perfect balance between rock, orchestral jazz, and hooky pop. The songwriting is impressive and digs a bit deeper than the next independent artist. Within each one of these pieces Holmes and Enden bare their soul and delivers what I would call pure musical mojo. It offers much in the way of passion and compelling-thought provoking lyrical content. The playing from Holmes and the actual band is spot on and just makes the whole CD even more enjoyable. Holmes is no slouch on the Piano. The overall vibe of the production is very uplifting and cheerful with pockets of hope shining through. I see E.G. Holmes as a diamond in the rough, with an amazing amount of potential as a composer and arranger. As time goes by he will no doubt hear more from him - in a behind the scenes sort of way. That's the reality path of a songwriter. Holmes is a lucrative music licensing contract waiting to happen. I also would be surprised to hear his music on Prime Time Radio someday or even in a film within the detailed liner notes. In close most famous artists out there have IT. I'm not so sure what IT is but E.G. Holmes has whatever IT is. Michael Morrison West Lothian, Scotland (UK) Rating: 8/10 --Music Emissions
